Capital

Capital, Late 5th/Early 6th c.

This marble capital was found at the site of the Round Church.  Its size is larger than many of the other objects with this decorative pattern, indicating its use in a load bearing position.  The highly stylized acanthus leaf decoration carved into the exterior is typical for this period of Byzantine Beth Shean.
